Surging wholesale gas & oil prices are predicted to result in 2 more price rises in 2008 - totalling 40%. The average household energy bill is predicted to hit a crippling £1467 - a £555 increase in just 1 year!
1. Switch Your Supplier
You're free to switch your supplier anytime you want - however only 20% did so last year!
It's the perfect time to switch too: all 6 major suppliers have now hiked their prices, making it more easy to compare than ever.
To get the best deal, I recommend:
Move to Dual Fuel (get both gas & electricity from same supplier)
Pay by direct debit (most suppliers offer a discount)
Sign up to an online energy plan - (Rather than a standard tariff - it's at least 20% cheaper)
Consider a capped tariff - where rate is fixed for 2/3 years. You'll pay 10% more, but be protected from future rate increases
Want a hassle-free switch? GreatSwitch.com compares ALL UK suppliers, and does all the paperwork for you!
2.Reduce energy consumption
Don't forget - you can also lower your bill by using less fuel!
* Turn down your central heating 2 degrees (6% reduction in energy costs!) * Switch to energy efficient light bulbs (approx £40 saving/yr) * Lower your hot water temperature to 110 degrees Celsius (approx £30 saving/yr) * For small meals use a microwave - heating a whole oven uses double the energy!
That's it for my MoneyMail Energy Special - good luck with reducing your Energy bills!
